While Danaher certainly popularized and meticulously articulated many concepts in the 2010s, the idea of deconstructing complex positions into fundamental principles for instructional purposes has a much earlier precedent in grappling, going back at least to Mitsuyo Maeda's documented teaching methods in Brazil in the 1910s, which were themselves a distillation of Jigoro Kano's judo curriculum. Maeda, by reputation, emphasized a structural understanding of leverage and balance, moving beyond mere rote memorization of techniques, a pedagogical approach that laid groundwork for subsequent generations.
