# Sergey Beloglazov
Sergei Alekseyevich Beloglazov is a Soviet and Russian former Olympic wrestler regarded by many to be one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers of all time. A two-time Olympic Champion, he claimed gold medals in 1980 and 1988. Over his career, he captured six World Championship titles and one World Championship silver medal. He wrestled for coach Granit Taropin for the former Soviet Union.
Career
Beloglazov trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Kaliningrad from 1976 to 1977 before moving to Dynamo in Kiev, where he trained from 1979 onward. This foundation under coach Granit Taropin would support one of the most decorated careers in freestyle wrestling history.
His first Olympic gold came in 1980, establishing him as an elite competitor on the international stage. He continued his dominance through the decade, accumulating six World Championship titles along with a World Championship silver medal. The consistency of his performance across multiple years demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication to his craft.
Beloglazov returned to Olympic glory in 1988, eight years after his first gold medal. This second Olympic championship cemented his status among wrestling's all-time greats, showcasing his ability to compete at the highest level across two different Olympic cycles.
Legacy
Beloglazov's impact on freestyle wrestling extends beyond his individual achievements. He has a twin brother, Anatoly Beloglazov, who was himself an Olympic Champion in 1980 and a three-time World Champion. Together, the Beloglazov brothers represent one of the most successful sibling combinations in wrestling history, both competing at the elite level for the former Soviet Union.
